Bec Hardy Pinot Noir 2023

Regular price $25.00

Region: Adelaide

Story: Vibrant and fresh, this wine is one of the best value Pinot Noirs going around - it's the perfect red wine for all seasons!

Vineyard:  This wine is a single vineyard Pinot Noir from the Osmond's 'Clay Creek' block located in a beautiful pocket just outside McLaren Flat.  The vines are 50 years old, a rarity for Pinot Noir in McLaren Vale.  The long established vines make for wonderfully balanced and high quality grapes.

Soils: The soils in this vineyard are deep aluvial clays from the Holocene era (11,700 years old). This area would have been a flood plain that was first planted by settlers so the soils retained water and the vines grew well, even before irrigation.

Harvest date: 3 February

Winemaking: Grapes were picked and had a very short truck ride to the winery which allowed for fast processing after harvest.  The grapes were destemmed and chilled to 12degC at the crusher before a 24hr cold soak pre-fermentation.  Cool ferment temps allowed for bright fresh fruit flavour retention.  Gentle treatment through ferment involved minimal 'handling' of the fruit, with oxygen injection into the ferment 3 time daily to keep the 'cap' wet and extract flavour, colour and tannin from the skins.  After 8 days ferment on skins, the wine was pressing to seasoned oak for 3 months before early bottling.

Nose: The nose displays youthful and fresh aromas of strawberries, cherries, and raspberries with additional floral notes.

Palate: The palate is vibrant with red cherries and strawberries, complemented by soft, powdery tannins.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2028

Alc: 14% TA: 5.7g/L
pH: 3.56 RS: 0.3g/L

"Cracking value here. Twenty bucks for a lovely Pinot Noir is a rare find. The fruit is from a single vineyard known as the Osmond’s ‘Clay Creek’ block located just outside McLaren Flat. The grapes are destemmed and chilled before a 24-hour cold soak before fermentation. The ferment is for 8 days on skins, before pressing to older oak for three months. Bottled early to ensure freshness. Pale crimson, the nose is fresh and fragrant with varietal Pinot notes. Florals, strawberries, gentle berry notes. This is nicely balanced with soft tannins, a slippery texture. A hint of crunchy acidity. Terrific drinking as we move to summer. Now and for a few years."
